Texas has the second highest number of native plant species at 4,500. It seems that us Texans aren’t the only ones that can survive the heat! You might not be able to visit them all, but here are six of the most beautiful botanical gardens across the state:

Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center

Founded by former First Lady of the United States Lady Bird Johnson and actress Helen Hayes in 1982, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is located in Austin on a 284-acre site featuring nearly 900 species of Texas native plants. It also plays host to at least 148 bird species and 15 mammal species.

Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden

Located in Dallas, this 66-acre arboretum and botanical garden is filled with exhibits, annual events and educational programs for children and adults.
