This is What TCDRS Retirees Are Enjoying Most About Retirement

We asked our Facebook followers what they enjoy most in retirement. Here’s what they said!

As part of our ongoing “We asked, you answered” Facebook series, we recently asked you to share which aspects of retired life you are most enjoying in retirement.

Here’s what you said:

Abandoning the Alarm Clock

One of the first things that excites many of you each day is not waking up to the alarm clock! Who needs a snooze button when you can wake up — and nap — whenever you want?

“Not hearing an alarm clock!!” — Midland County retiree

“Peace, quiet and naps.” — Jefferson County retiree

Investing the Extra Time

But once you do wake up and stretch your legs, there’s plenty more retirement has to offer. Many retirees have simply been enjoying life. There’s a lot of freedom that comes from a lifetime of hard work, and you don’t even have to get busy to enjoy it!

Many of you are traveling, relaxing on the beach or taking naps on the couch. The world is your oyster, and it’s got plenty of pearls.

Others of you have been enjoying the time you’ve been able to spend with your loved ones. Be it your spouses, children or grandchildren, you’ve been enjoying the opportunity to connect with those who matter most!

“Everything!!! Whatever you want, whenever!!!! If you get done, great, if not… 🤷‍♀️ whatever. Tomorrow is another day!” — El Paso County retiree

“Get all your wife’s honey-do’s done!!” — Collin County Sheriff’s Office retiree

“Enjoy your family. Do whatever you want to do or nothing at all.” — Concho Valley COG retiree

Paying Yourself

Sometimes, the best part of retirement is paying yourself. You didn’t save up all this time for nothing! Being able to enjoy the hard-earned fruits of your labor has been a common theme in our Facebook thread, and why wouldn’t it be?

“The returns of all of your hard work through TCDRS!” — Hemphill County Hospital District retiree

“Travel and having the confidence to know Texas County & District Retirement System (TCDRS) has you covered.” — Uvalde County retiree

We love hearing about everything you’ve been up to during retirement. So if you aren’t already, give us a follow @TCDRS on Facebook or Instagram to connect with other retirees and share your story!
